2010-01-19 Community Quality Institute (CQI) is pleased to announce Peter Maione, HSCDSB has joined the Quality Leadership Team (QLT), CQI’s voluntary advisory board.
“What appealed to me in regards to the Community Quality Institute, was the fact that the organization looks at a number of key areas that need to be addressed in order to help a city improve the overall quality of life. I liked the fact that the organization was multi-facetted honing in on seven key areas: culture/recreation, the economy, education, the environment, governance, health, and social well-being. I love my city and I hope I can contribute to the team any way I can to help our city to continue to grow and flourish for generations to come.”
Jeff Holmes, Chair of the QLT is pleased to welcome Peter and the HSCDSB’s support of one of their staff to participate in the development of the Community Performance Report and to lead and guide the Community Quality Institute to be a nationally recognized organization dedicated to measuring and engaging change to the goal of improving community wellness.
2009 - 11 - 17 Measuring the External Costs of Poverty in Sault Ste. Marie: Community Quality Institute released a study on the local impact of poverty, commissioned by the District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Board.
Beyond Compassion: Measuring the External Costs of Poverty in Sault Ste. Marie is a landmark study, in that it focuses on how poverty influences the broader community, not just those individuals and families experiencing it first hand.
The report identifies millions of dollars in potential savings to Sault Area Hospital, and millions of dollars more in local spending available if the poorest of the poor improved their living standards.
CQI is calling for a cross-sectoral task force to be convened, including representatives from health care, education, economic development and social services, to review the findings and develop strategies for poverty reduction in Sault Ste. Marie
