This short course introduces participants to the principles of Continuous Improvement and Quality Management. The purpose of the course is to provide some exposure to the basic techniques and potential applications through case studies and discussion.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES/OUTCOMES: At the completion of this course, participants will have gained the necessary skills and knowledge to:
· explain the principles of Dr. Edwards Deming and Quality Leadership;
· explain the advantages and disadvantages of Management by Results and Quality Leadership;
· describe the tools, techniques, and attitudes that make team work successful in an organization;
· list the activities that must be completed before a project team starts on a project;
· determine the nature of the project outcomes and expectations;
· establish team membership and logistics for team meetings;
· describe the boundaries and support the team will have;
· choose team leader and quality advisor and determine their responsibilities;
· create a plan for improvement;
· list five crucial improvement effort activities;
· explain basic strategies of the scientific approach;
· define a project which includes a mission statement;
· explain the five-stage plan for process improvement that include:
a) understand the process
b) eliminate errors
c) remove slack
d) reduce variation
e) plan for continuous improvement |
